I've been doing my own thing for the last couple of years and I must say, this journey has been both invigorating and a learning experience....more leaning towards the learning though.  But living on the edge is right up my alley.  When I was pretty young, I started creating field trips to take kids on in the neighborhood; in my early 20's I started a modeling troupe and show and in my later 20's I created a business selling t-shirts and sweatshirts all while working as a freelance secretary (working for temporary agencies as it was called).  Finally, in my 40's I bought properties and became my own Property Manager.  So what am I really trying to say?  This:  that I am well acquainted with the ups and downs of life and living just a whee bit above the edge and not only surviving but thriving.  Thus, I can give you a little advice about how to hustle and make it.  So far, I have done a few on this list, but like many people, I'm still working out the kinks.  I've done a lot of behind the scenes research.  Although it's difficult to trust online resources, I've used several legitimate bloggers, pinterest accounts and search engines to get these great finds.  Also, I will provide as many links as possible to back up the info.  Here are 10 ways to make extra money and perhaps start your own business in the process.

Mystery Shopping

Real companies do exist but please check them out first.  One of the ways to do this is by checking out Mystery Shop Organization  which lists companies that are legitimate or this article on if mystery shopping is a scam or not... Mystery Shopping Scam Article.  And finally here is another list to check out; Legitimate Mystery Shopping Companies.  Use common sense when checking out these companies and opportunities.  Under no circumstances should a Legitimate Mystery Shopping company ask you for money upfront to fill out and complete an application.  If it sounds to good to be true, then be cautious.  However, you can make decent cash applying for these jobs.

Acorns

Although this is not a job or actual work, it is a way to save money as you spend.  Acorns is a mobile app that takes your change once you've reached $5.00 and rounds it up into an investment vehicle.  Be very cautious especially when dealing with money.  Check them out and do the research.  I promise you won't be disappointed.  

Amazon Affiliate Marketing

If you have your own website, blog or online store this is a good way to earn money and help others in the process.  An affiliate marketer gets paid by having products on your site that a visitor might purchase or even look at.  Check out Amazon if you think you have the time to do so.

Raising Children without Raising Cane

Raising children or training them to be able to deal successfully with this world and how to navigate through it so they can make a difference is crucial and critical.  However, as parents, becoming parents or anyone that have children's interest at heart, know that is a gargantuan task and not for the faint of heart.

I am not a psychologist, therapist or doctor, just someone who has raised two children and now helping raise granddaughters/grand nieces, taught children and is concerned about the welfare of children in my community, home and throughout the world.

I have created two things that could help a parent, if they are interested, to navigate this sea.  The first one is an article for those parents who are looking to learn more about how to raise Godly children and the second one is my online store that caters to children's self esteem and uplifting Godly motivation.  Take a look at them both.  If it resonates with you, please feel free to share it with others or use it for yourself.

Children and Teens Need a Better World View

When deciding to create this business, my mind was fully on the issues facing our children today.  They are in a force wind that is taking them in directions that could possibly destroy their lives.  I wanted to help as much as I could.

As a former classroom teacher, my greatest impact was of course dealing directly with the students, and I think I did have some influence, but I believe God gave me a new direction so that I could effect even greater lives by creating my business dedicated to bringing back innocence, Godly significance, enriching art experiences and educational stimulation through their bedroom accessories.

I believe in beauty and what it can do especially at a time when beauty is being questioned as being significant.

We live in a world that today believes in nothing and no one except itself and children are growing up under this tyranny.  I call it tyranny because they can't do much about it because adults have created it. 

I'm not attempting to guilt or shame anyone, I'm just as responsible, but we have to accept our part in creating this drama.  The movies, music, culture and politics they are exposed to has them in fear and some even dreading their future.  How do I know, because I have young nephews, nieces and friends that are navigating this world right now.

I'm not interested in them being a version of me or like me, but I am interested in them being courageous, know who they are and whose they are and set the temperature for this new world we are navigating now.

I've been shamed in what I want to do, many believing it impossible or outdated but I won't stop until I see that our youth are improving in a healthy way, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually and creatively. 

The bible tells us to "train up a child IN THE WAY he should go.....his lean and bent.  We are to offer values, teach them about God but ultimately let them be who they are inside and out.

Check out my Bible Tees....I'm just getting started but I want them to experience life in these 5 areas, artistically/creatively, culturally, Godly inspiration, historically and educationally. 

Something has to give....unless you have a more innovative idea, we should be trying and attempting to create and knock down as many barriers as possible for our kids sake.  Why, because one day they will be leading you for better or worse.

Using Texture in Art

 

Art Technique Monday

The implied texture of leaves

Today we will be discussing an art technique used by many artists called texture.  Texture is the ability to make an art piece look almost 2  or 3 dimensional through the use of materials that can stand out or have a certain feel to them.  Check out the pictures below.  Each one of them have texture.  One has what we call implied texture (the artist used lines and drawing skills to represent texture) and the other is real texture whereby an artist used materials and a technique to make the materials adhere to the art a certain way.

Why is texture used?

An artist might want you to actually touch their piece of artwork and not make it seem so fragile.  Art is to be consumed and enjoyed not just on display.

In the case of implied texture, the artist wants you to believe that a picture is fuzzy, hard, soft, etc. by using the lines, shapes, and shadows to create that illusion.

This artist used real texture by creating a tapestry made from fabric.  If you look closely you can see the fuzzy feel of the lines in the cloth. 

Check out this video on the Element of Texture.  Remember an element is an art technique used to make art and a Principle is the rule you follow to make the art.  Example, your teacher tells you to be quiet....that's the rule or principle, the element(s) would be the ways you try to be quiet such as put your head down, look away from the other classmates, read a book, etc.

Artist usually use texture mediums to create real texture, but you can use anything.  I use eggshells, tree branches, stencils, etc. to give the art a piece of real texture.  Come join the fun!
